NEUROLOGY: deCODE publishes landmark study linking the Neuregulin 1 gene to schizophrenia

Schizophrenia Update, October 2002

September 27, 2002

deCODE genetics (DCGN) announced the publication of a paper describing the company's work on the genetics of schizophrenia.

The paper presents data from deCODE's population genetics research linking Neuregulin 1 to schizophrenia, as well as the results of subsequent functional studies underscoring the role of this gene in the pathology of the disease. The Neuregulin pathway has yielded druggable targets, which deCODE is employing in its collaboration with Roche to discover new and more effective treatments for schizophrenia. The paper, entitled "Neuregulin 1 and susceptibility to schizophrenia," has been published in the online edition of the American Jo>Early Schizophrenia Screening Test
