well, my pdoc took me off the zyprexa and replaced it with risperdol and something for my nerves. She promised that the risperdal wouldn't make me eat like a horse. Anyone taking risperdal and how did it affect you?

I'm basically on it now, as I'm on invega which is the active metabolite in a time released pill. I don't eat too much and I'm pretty stable, atleast as far as my moods. It's a pretty good drug but it does cause massive spiking of prolactin levels, which you should look into.

Thanks you guys. As long as it doesn't make me feel like I am starving I'll be fine. It would be nice to have something quiet the voices in my head. Sexual side effects, meh, I don't care. I'd rather be lucid too.

I only have good things going on mostly. No side effects. Only slight weight gain. Avoid fatty foods and eat some vegetables and you're safe. I get proper sleep and no mood problems. Only thing that affects me is that libido has gone down with increase in medication dosage(from 1mg to 3 mg). So thats atleast some good news i can bring to you. I dont know how you'll respond to the medication. Good Luck!

I am on risperdal. Works great. I have no complaints except maybe that im having trouble losing weight. I would rather not be in psychosis though. I was pretty bad off and its the only thing that worked for me. The libido is affected though, but its worth the tradeoff.

I was on prolixen for more than 20 years and my doctor switched me to reperidal to cut my chances of getting Tardive Dyskonesia. I feel the same, I can't tell the difference except maybe the resperidal makes me a little more tired. I have been on a diet and have actually lost weight on it.

Took it for a few weeks. Gave me akathisia - had to walk and walk and walk and never was able to sleep due to constant shuffling - couldn't get comfortable. Finally went on zyprexa and that went away.

I've been taking 4mg a day for the past 2 years. It's much better for me than Zyprexa. That is what I was taking before. I gained a little bit of weight and my sex drive is way down, but other than that it is pretty good.

I'm currently taking Risperdal. I have nothing bad to say about it. I take 2mg a day. It made the voices disappear. Also decreased the homicidal thoughts. I was on alot of meds prior to Risperdal. I never felt better then I ever did after taking it. So far no signs of weight gain. I actually lost weight. It was my last hope. So I agreed to start it and the results are amazing!!!

I was on Risperdal for quite a while but I wasn't comfortable on it. I am much more comfortable with myself on Abilify.
Each person is different. So whatever works for you....
Good luck,
Judy
