New IVAX Clozapine Tablet - 50mg

IVAX announces new Clozapine Tablet Strength

The Miami-based company said it will make clozapine tablets in a 50 mg strength. Ivax (AMEX: IVX) said it will sell the drug through its Ivax Pharmaceuticals subsidiary.

The newest Food and Drug Administration approval follows approvals for Ivax to sell clozapine tablets in 100 mg, 25 mg and 12.5 mg tablet dosages.

Clozapine is a generic form of Clozaril, marketed by Novartis.

Also announced recently are some new tablet sizes for Clozapine from another drug manufacturer:

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NASDAQ: TEVA) announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted final approval for the Company's ANDA for Clozapine Tablets, 25 mg and 100 mg. Shipment of this product is expected to begin immediately.
