NPR has a special report this morning on how the Mentally Ill are Suffering amid Katrina-forced Evacuations.

Among the last evacuees arriving at the triage in Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport are those with mental illnesses. They were slow to leave because they did not understand the danger, or their illness made them uncooperative. Many patients are without medication and their conditions (such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc.) have deteriorated.
